Some people will find the BodyWorlds 2 exhibition fascinating,
unsettling, eye-opening or disturbing. It is certainly shocking. And it definitely
raises a host of questions.
Is it right to display the bodies of dead people? Is it morally and ethically
acceptable? Does it offend our sense of decency? Does it allow us to confront
death? Does it pave the way for more absurd ways of preserving bodies after
death? Why would people want to see them?
The Forum, moderated by Anne-Marie Dussault and with input from the guest
experts, will take a personal, relaxed approach as a way of encouraging participants
to share their opinions and think more deeply about these sensitive issues.
The forum was organized at the suggestion of the advisory committee set
up by the Montréal Science Centre to help it prepare to host the BodyWorlds
2 exhibition.
With the participation of the Quebec science and technology ethics commission
(CEST).
| On May 23, the Montréal Science Centre will also be hosting a CEST seminar on the theme of “Using the human body: a matter of personal choice?” The seminar is reserved for Commission members. |
