Go behind the scenes of a show!
For nine days, the Montréal Science Centre will be presenting Backstage Access, an original event for teens and the whole family that takes you behind the scenes of a show.
with the participation of
the National Theatre School of Canada

and

Backstage
You’ll start out by exploring a hands-on work space, where you can handle, experiment with and get to know various pieces of equipment, all essential parts of the show.
- A lighting zone, a sound zone, flies … you can try out all kinds of stage equipment to see how it works.
- Take apart a loudspeaker, look inside a video projector, test some sound effects – it’s a perfect opportunity to explore and give your curiosity free rein.
New this year:
The interactive tiles used in the stage for KÀ™, the Cirque du Soleil® show, and the robotized miniature stage developed by LANTISS (the new image, sound and stage technologies laboratory at Laval University)!
In the theatre
Once you understand how things work and have had a chance to try them out, it’s showtime!
- You reach the theatre from the back, where you’ll find all the technical functions, from mechanics to propmen and women.
- The master control consoles – lighting, sound, video, etc. – are out in front of the stage. This is where you can put your new skills to the test.
- Yakov, the Director, is the one running the show. He co-ordinates everything and instructs the actors, for comedy, drama and musical acts.
“Come join my team. Help us prepare for the next scene in my show. Give us a hand adjusting the colours, sound and sets. You’ll raise and lower things, turn equipment on and off, or maybe just watch. You’ll get to see for yourself how a show is created. Take your places, the rehearsal’s about to start!”
