ODYSSEE SYSTEM
Sensational!
How would you like to dart about on Harry Potter's broom,
tremble to the thunderous footsteps of the Tyrannosaurus
Rex in Jurassic Park or make a Cast Away-style crash landing?
And all without budging from your couch!
Scene 423, take 1024, ACTION!
What's going on with this couch? It's really rocking and
rolling, and moving around to reflect what's happening
in the movie you're watching. From skydiving to explosions,
tornados and shipwrecks, you can feel every shake and
shudder. No need to leave your living room-the action
is all right here!
A "moving" experience
The system works in one of two ways.
For most popular films, the couch's movements are programmed
by the company and recorded on a CD-ROM. A controller
(the brains of the system) moves four "actuators", hydraulic
pistons under the feet of the couch. At 100 movements
a second, and with acceleration worthy of a race car,
it gives a whole new dimension to home cinema!
The second mode works with unprogrammed shows, video games
and DVDs. The controller analyzes the soundtrack and moves
the couch to keep up with the action.
The D-Box Odysee
The founders of D-Box Technologies, Michel Jacques and
Philippe Roy, dreamed of creating multisensory home cinema.
With a bit of help from the electrical engineering and
computer engineering department of the Université de Sherbrooke,
Odysee
was born four years, several million dollars and
a few patents later. This new technology is already making
waves among manufacturers of flight simulators and arcade
games.
Thanks!
The Odysee system is on loan from D-Box Technologies.
